There are profound differences in how various demographic groups among both consumers and businesses use the social media at their disposal. Some examples: organizations with lots of information to share with customers and prospects and a long selling cycle benefit from blogs that are marketed primarily through Twitter. By contrast, organizations that often give away samples often do well cultivating a large Facebook presence.

Once an organization has defined an audience on one or more social media, contacting that audience should become a routine part of every public relations or marketing communications campaign.
